"Kiss your assets goodbye" is new Southern Nevada business development slogan
According to their website, the mission of the Nevada Development Authority is to " attract , retain, and expand the business base to enhance the overall socioeconomic development of Southern Nevada ". On August 6 in Las Vegas, the group presented and launched a new ad campaign with the goal of attracting California business owners towards relocation to Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. California is of course experiencing massive budget deficits, exorbitant taxation, and extremely tight business regulation. The new campaign highlights Nevada's accommodative position toward business as reflected in the lack of corporate and personal income taxes and comparatively lower worker's compensation rates. Los Angeles television and radio commercials along with print ads will contrast California and Nevada business environments and will be supported by publicity, grassroots, and viral marketing efforts.
This "Kiss your assets goodbye" slogan surely must have appeal for the strangled businesses in California and is one that just might motivate some aspects of economic recovery in Vegas. That assumes that those California businesses are willing and fiscally healthy enough to assume the risks and costs of relocation. The business environment status in California appears to be so far in the toilet that remaining there might be the greatest risk assumption alternative. We'll see.
